Day 311: Orange Scones

I haven't made scones in a few months! So today I baked these amazing orange scones! These scones are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or snack.

The scones themselves are not too sweet, so that's why I recommend using the glaze! They have a crackly exterior and a fluffy interior.

Being citrus season, I knew I had to make something with citrus. I had some oranges, so I decided to make these scones. You can add dried fruit (such as cranberries), or even chocolate chips, while you are kneading all the ingredients together!

For the glaze, I use blood oranges. I love the pop of pink in a classic glaze! However, in the scones, I used navel oranges. Use any oranges you want for this recipe.

Perhaps next time, I'll try out a blood orange scone and glaze! In the meantime, this is scone heaven!

Orange Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons orange juice (I used blood oranges)

STEPS:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and orange zest. Cut in the butter, and knead in the rest of the ingredients.

  2. Flatten into a disk and cut into 6 triangles. Place onto a baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes at 400 degrees F.

  3. Meanwhile, combine orange juice and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Drizzle onto warm scones.

Enjoy!
