Star bread is so beautiful and stuffed with a pizza filling. This bread seems intimidating and hard, but it's simple.
I was pretty scared to try at first; what if things went wrong? But when I tried it out, I ended up having a lot of fun!
You can fill the star bread with extra toppings. Vegetables or pepperoni work! Most pizza star bread requires lots of proofing time.
This recipe only needs 30 minutes of hands-on time! To make a star bread you have to layer pizza dough after pizza dough and then cut 16 strips.
Twist two strips (that are next to each other) and then pinch the ends together. Making it one twist in total.

RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
1 cup of water
Filling:
1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
Egg Wash:
1 egg
1 teaspoon water
STEPS:
In a large bowl stir the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast together. Pour the water in and knead into a ball. Cover with a dishtowel and proof for 10 minutes. Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
Divide the proofed dough into four sections. Roll each section into a 10" circle in diameter. Place one sheet of dough on the parchment paper. Layer 1/3 of the tomato sauce, and 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat with the two other pizza dough sections. Finally, lay the last pizza dough sheets over the top and place a cup in the middle. Divide the large pizza circle into 16 sections. Twist two and join them together, by pinching the ends. Repeat for the remaining sections. Look above for photos to help you out.
In a small bowl whisk the egg and water together, brush onto the pizza star bread. Bake for 15 minutes and serve.
Enjoy!
