Day 265: Royal Falooda

Only 100 days more to go! Can you believe it? I can't. Today is also my grandma's birthday and her favorite drink is falooda.

I made royal falooda, it's basically classic falooda, with jelly and if you want, tutti frutti. I've got to say, the jelly pieces taste so so so good in this drink.

Falooda is one of my absolute favorite drinks! It's decadent and full of that wonderful rose flavor!

I like making my jello the day ahead and storing it in an airtight container in the fridge. I know tutti frutti is hard to find here in the US, so feel free to skip that step out. It's optional. Though you can use dried fruits if you have those on hand.

I found that chia seeds work just as fine as basil seeds! They add a great texture and take the same time. Feel free to substitute!

Make sure to top your falooda off with a huge scoop of ice cream or kulfi, nuts, and raisins.

RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tablespoons rose syrup

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 tablespoons basil seeds, chia seeds work as well

  • 3 cups of water

  • 1/2 cup falooda sev or vermicelli

  • 1/4 cup prepared strawberry jello

  • 1/4 cup tutti frutti

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream

STEPS:

  1. Soak basil seeds in 1 cup water for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the falooda sev with 2 cups of water for 5 minutes. Drain once done, and set aside.

  2. In a medium bowl stir together rose syrup and milk.

  3. With a ladle pour two servings of the falooda in your cup - fill it up 2/3 way full. Add soaked basil seeds, falooda sev, jello/tutti frutti, and stir it. Lastly, add a scoop of ice cream.

Enjoy!
