Can you believe I have never baked a red velvet cake on my blog?! I knew I had to make it for this week, especially since Valentine's Day was just yesterday.

Red velvet cake has a tender crumb and a slight hint of chocolate coming from a bit of cocoa powder.

I think this is the perfect dessert to make for a special someone, family member, or Galentine.

Plus, I loved how the cake turned out after baking it in a heart-shaped tin. So cute and adorable!
RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
Cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup cocoa powder
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup yogurt
1-1 1/2 tablespoons red food coloring
Frosting:
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
2 1/2-3 cups powdered sugar
STEPS:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, and line a 9-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine all your ingredients for the cake. Pour the batter into a prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes.
Set aside to cool until the cake reaches room temperature.
In a mixer, cream the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy to create the frosting. Add the cream cheese and mix once more.
Cut the cake in half and spread half of the cream cheese frosting in between each cake layer. Then, decorate the exterior of the cake with the remaining frosting.
Enjoy!
