Tutti frutti cake is a unique flavor that is typically found in South Asian restaurants or kitchens.
Tutti frutti is made from candied papaya, which is either red or green, and cut into small cubes.
You should be able to find tutti frutti online or at your local Indian or South Asian grocery store.
I used my grandmother's recipe and made the cake with her on my trip to India. It was a great experience that I will cherish for a long time!
RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all-purpose flour, plus 2 tablespoons extra flour for tutti frutti in step two
3/4 cup powdered sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoon milk
1/2 cup tutti frutti
STEPS:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, and line a 6-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix the extra flour needed for step 2 with the tutti frutti so it doesn't sink to the bottom of the cake. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until frothy. Then, add the vanilla extract and butter. Sift in the flour and baking powder. Gently, fold the milk in and top with tutti frutti.
Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
Enjoy!
